David Arquette is making an unexpected return to the Scream franchise, reprising his role as Dewey Riley in the upcoming Scream 7. Despite Dewey’s death in Scream (2022), it appears that death holds little sway in this latest chapter of the beloved horror series.
Arquette’s Dewey was infamously killed off in the previous installment by Amber Freeman, played by Mikey Madison. It confirmed that Arquette will indeed return as Dewey in the next film, raising questions about how his character will reappear, given the events of the previous movie.
In addition to Arquette, Scream 7 will feature other franchise characters believed to be dead. Matthew Lillard is returning as Stu Macher, and Scott Foley will reprise his role as Roman Bridger. Details on how these characters, all of whom were killed off in earlier films, will be brought back are currently being kept under wraps.
Scream 7 is slated for release on February 27, 2026. With a plot shrouded in mystery, the film promises to continue the franchise’s trend of shocking twists. Notably, Arquette’s return is part of a broader cast revival, with Neve Campbell returning as Sidney Prescott and Courteney Cox reprising her role as Gale Weathers. The ensemble will also include Lillard, Foley, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown, among others.
New faces joining the cast include Celeste O’Connor, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Asa Germann, Anna Camp, Isabel May, Mark Consuelos, Ethan Embry, and Joel McHale, who will portray Sidney’s husband, Mark Evans.
Directed by original Scream writer Kevin Williamson, Scream 7 is shaping up to be a thrilling continuation of the franchise’s legacy. As more details emerge, fans can expect plenty of surprises in this next terrifying chapter.
