Actor Justin Hartley has revealed how his role as the resilient Colter Shaw on CBS’s gripping thriller Tracker has taught him valuable life lessons and survival skills. In an interview, the 48-year-old star shared insights into how the intense physicality and mental challenges of portraying Shaw have influenced his personal life.
“One of the most important survival tactics I’ve learned from Tracker is to be patient and stay calm in times of stress,” Hartley explained. “When you panic, you make bad decisions. It’s something my character lives by, and I try to live by it as well.” He went on to highlight how playing Shaw repeatedly reinforces this mindset, ultimately benefiting his own approach to life.
Known for his relentless pursuit of justice, Hartley’s character, Colter Shaw, is often seen navigating treacherous terrains, from dense forests to daring high-flying rescues. Tracker has kept viewers on the edge of their seats with high-stakes missions, showcasing Shaw’s unyielding determination to uncover the truth.
As the highly anticipated second season of Tracker premiered last fall, Hartley shared the increased physical demands of his role. Speaking in September 2024, he explained, “The episode order is much larger this season, which presents a challenge. In three months, we’ll see how I feel. But there’s definitely more physicality in some episodes, especially in the fight scenes. I don’t mind a bruise here and there, so I’m just focusing on keeping my body healthy.”
Hartley’s commitment to physical fitness is evident as he prepares for the more physically demanding aspects of the show. The actor, who shares a romantic connection with Tracker co-star Sofia Pernas, emphasized the importance of maintaining peak physical condition for the role. “My character is constantly running, jumping, climbing, and fighting — a lot of fighting,” Hartley explained in an interview in February. “Fitness goes beyond just looking good. It affects every aspect of your life, from emotional well-being to stress levels.”
The action-packed thriller has already been confirmed for a thrilling third season, set to air between 2025 and 2026. CBS President of Entertainment, Amy Reisenbach, expressed her excitement about the upcoming season, saying, “Our new and returning series continue to showcase CBS as a leader in creating and programming shows with broad appeal for both broadcast and streaming audiences.”
Fans can catch new episodes of Tracker every Sunday at 8 p.m. on CBS, with the show also available for streaming on Paramount+. Expect more pulse-pounding moments and twists that will keep viewers hooked throughout the season.
