Bryce Dallas Howard’s ‘Pets’ Celebrates the Human-Animal Bond

by Barbara

Filmmaker Bryce Dallas Howard is set to shine a light on the unspoken yet profound relationship between humans and their pets in her new documentary, Pets. Scheduled for release on Disney+ on April 11, 2025, National Pet Day, the documentary captures the unconditional love and connection that transcends boundaries like skin color, income, and social status.

For Howard, directing Pets has long been a dream project. “There’s something about these wordless intuitive bonds, full of mischief and love, that feel like magic,” Howard shared. “And pet videos? They tap into such pure innocence and happiness, the kind of laughter that catches you off guard and reminds you why we love them so much.” She went on to express her gratitude for working with the teams at Imagine Documentaries and Disney Branded Television, hoping that viewers will experience the same joy she felt throughout the making of the film.

This marks Howard’s second documentary after 2019’s Dads, and she draws upon her personal affection for animals to connect with a wide audience, whether they’re pet owners or not. The film’s narrative is both humorous and heartfelt, profiling a variety of individuals, from everyday pet guardians to animal rescuers, as they share their unique and vital connections with animals—from dogs and cats to pigs, goats, and even birds of prey.

Through a blend of inspiring stories, archival footage, viral videos, and insightful interviews, Pets delivers a compelling mix of laughter, love, loss, and the joyous moments pets bring into our lives. It’s a celebration of the lasting impact animals have on us, no matter where in the world we are.
