“Down to the Felt” to Open Cinema Columbus Film Festival

by Barbara

The Cinema Columbus Film Festival has officially announced that the locally produced film Down to the Felt will serve as the headliner for the festival’s opening night. This screening will mark the central Ohio premiere of the film, which showcases the talents of Columbus-based filmmakers.

Brett Reiter, the festival’s director, expressed his excitement over featuring such a locally made film at the event. “While our festival typically features works from all over, it’s incredibly special to have a film so deeply rooted in Columbus,” Reiter said. “The festival’s goal has always been to bring together global and local voices, and presenting a film made by Columbus filmmakers on opening night is a beautiful way to highlight the community’s talent.”

Jon Osbeck, co-writer and director of Down to the Felt, echoed Reiter’s enthusiasm, emphasizing the significance of the film’s local roots. “We’re thrilled to bring a movie made in, and about, Columbus to the big screen at the Cinema Columbus Film Festival,” Osbeck said. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to showcase this work to the entire city.”

According to Osbeck, Down to the Felt is the largest independent feature film ever produced in central Ohio. The film was co-written by Osbeck, Ralph Scott, and Dino Tripodis, all Columbus-based filmmakers. The project was designed to highlight the region’s artistic talents both in front of and behind the camera.

Osbeck also underscored the importance of the festival for the local film community. “It’s essential for Columbus to recognize what we have with Cinema Columbus,” he said. “The festival provides a platform to spotlight the talent and growth of the city’s filmmaking industry, benefiting both local filmmakers and audiences.”

The Down to the Felt premiere will take place on April 30 at the Southern Theatre in downtown Columbus. The event is ticketed and open to the public.
