Writer, producer, and director Rohit Karn Batra’s latest project, The Gun on Second Street, has partnered with Sean Penn’s production company, Projected Picture Works, for its upcoming drama. The film, which focuses on the urgent issue of gun violence in the U.S., will be produced by Guy J. Louthan of Ransom Films, with Batra serving as a producer. Executive producers include Rikin Shah, U.S. Congressman Eric Swalwell, and the Projected Picture Works team: Penn, John Ira Palmer, and John Wildermuth. Filming is set to begin in early June.
The Gun on Second Street tells the story of two Pittsburgh police officers, best friends TJ Meadows III and Kevin Cooper, who are called to a routine domestic violence dispute. When an unfortunate accident leads Officer Meadows to unintentionally kill his partner Cooper, he is left emotionally scarred. Years later, no longer a cop, Meadows returns to Pittsburgh, where he forms a romantic relationship with Kevin’s widow, Kacie. Together, they must confront the tragic events that have shaped their lives.
“We’re excited to be involved in The Gun on Second Street,” said Sean Penn, John Ira Palmer, and John Wildermuth of Projected Picture Works in a joint statement. “The film is a grounded exploration of the complexities of human lives intertwined by trauma. Rohit’s screenplay is an impressive portrayal of universal themes like redemption and the long-lasting effects of personal tragedy. As a director, he has an ambitious vision for how to visually bring this powerful story to life, and we’re eager to be part of the journey.”
Batra expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, saying, “I am thrilled to have the incredibly experienced team at Projected Picture Works on board to bring The Gun on Second Street to the big screen. Their commitment to authentic, character-driven storytelling aligns perfectly with the heart of this film. I couldn’t ask for better partners to help realize this vision and deliver a cinematic experience that resonates with audiences.”
