Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis Reunite for ‘Freakier Friday’ Sequel

by Barbara

Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are back in action, bringing plenty of laughs in the official teaser for Freakier Friday, the highly anticipated sequel to the beloved 2003 Disney film. The first official trailer, released on March 14, reveals the returning duo’s comedic chemistry as they once again find themselves swapping bodies and navigating hilarious situations.

In the teaser, a fortune teller (Vanessa Bayer) warns the characters Tess (Curtis) and Anna Coleman (Lohan) that their fates have “intersected before.” The fortune teller ominously hints at a lesson to be learned once more, setting the stage for another magical mishap. As expected, the mother-daughter pair quickly jumps up and leaves, but the premonition soon proves true, and they find themselves in the same body-switching predicament once again—this time with a surprising twist.

Not only do Tess and Anna swap bodies once again, but the new mishap also affects Anna’s daughter and her British friend, adding an extra layer of comedic chaos. “My face looks like a Birkin bag that’s been left out in the sun to rot,” Curtis quips as she looks at her reflection in a hilarious moment of self-deprecation.

Throughout the trailer, the characters must once again pretend to be each other until they can find a way to reverse the body swap. This leads to a series of funny situations, including playing pickleball, attending high school, driving a convertible, and even encountering Chad Michael Murray’s character, Jake, from the original film. The trailer also features a blink-and-you-miss-it cameo from Lohan’s Parent Trap co-star Elaine Hendrix, who makes a brief appearance next to a person dressed as a giant pizza.

Freakier Friday, the sequel to the iconic 2003 film, is set to hit theaters on August 8. The original film saw Curtis and Lohan’s characters, Tess and Anna, hilariously swap bodies, and now, more than two decades later, they’re back for round two.

Sequel Announcement and Return to Set

The idea of a Freaky Friday sequel had been swirling for years, and in May 2023, Curtis and Lohan addressed the ongoing rumors during a joint interview. “As I went around the world with Halloween Ends, people wanted to know if there was going to be another Freaky Friday,” Curtis recalled. “Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made.’”

Lohan was equally excited to return to the role. “We’re leaving it in the hands that be,” she said at the time. “We would only make something that people would absolutely adore.”

By March 2024, the sequel was officially confirmed to be in development, and in June 2024, both actresses reunited on set. “The band’s back together and coming to theaters in 2025,” Disney Studios shared on TikTok, posting a video of Lohan and Curtis standing next to their trailers.

Plot and Cast Details

The sequel takes place years after Tess and Anna’s original body-swap experience. According to the film’s logline, Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter, and the story will explore the challenges that come with blending two families. As Tess and Anna navigate their new family dynamics, they discover that history may be repeating itself in a comically familiar way.

Chad Michael Murray and Mark Harmon will reprise their roles as Jake and Ryan, respectively, with other returning cast members including Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao. The film will also introduce new characters played by Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan.

At Disney’s D23 event in August 2024, Lohan and Curtis officially announced the title of the sequel as Freakier Friday. Lohan expressed excitement for the project, noting, “It’s more fun, it’s more emotional, and it’s all for you guys.” Curtis shared similar sentiments, saying, “It feels like picking up where we left off, which is really beautiful.”

With the original film’s fans eager for more, Freakier Friday promises to bring even more laughs, heart, and family-friendly fun when it premieres in August 2025.
