Hong Kong’s PCCW Media has announced a collaboration with independent film and TV studio SK Global Entertainment, known for hits like Crazy Rich Asians, to co-produce an exciting new drama series titled The Season. The six-part series, set in Hong Kong, will explore a group of friends who come together for a carefree summer as boating season kicks off, only for their vacation to unravel into a complex tale of deception and power struggles.
The project was officially introduced at Hong Kong FilMart, where Janice Lee, managing director of PCCW Media Group and CEO of Viu, the company’s multi-territory video streaming service, shared her optimism. “We believe The Season is a story that will resonate with audiences worldwide, delving into the characters’ personal journeys, relationships, and conflicts,” said Lee.
The series boasts an impressive cast, led by Jessie Mei Li (Shadow and Bone), Golden Horse Award winner Karena Lam, Justin Chien (The Brothers Sun), Yvonne Chapman (Avatar: The Last Airbender), Celina Jade (Wolf Warrior 2), and Toby Stephens (Percy Jackson and the Olympians). Additional cast members include Kōki, recipient of the 2025 Rising Star of Asia Award at the Asian Film Awards, Lee Jae-yoon (Physical 100 Season 2), along with Hong Kong talents Anson Lo, Marf Yau, King Maker V winner Lyman Heung, Thor Lok, and Mishy Lee.
The series will be led by showrunner Yalun Tu, a writer and producer with extensive experience, including work with Amazon Japan and HBO Asia. Tu is also known for his contributions to NCIS: Hawaii and Wu Assassins. Chilean director Marialy Rivas, recognized for her work on The Jetty, will serve as the lead director and executive producer. The executive producers from PCCW Media include Agatha Lo, while Chloe Dan, Matt Aragachi, and Dylan Tarason represent SK Global. Aaron Shershow will produce.
“We hope that the unique backdrop of Hong Kong will bring added energy and vibrancy to the series,” Lee added. “It offers a window into Hong Kong’s distinct culture, international spirit, and iconic landmarks in an authentic way.”
The Season will be available for streaming on Viu across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and South Africa, with global distribution details set to be revealed in the near future.
PCCW Media is a Hong Kong-based company providing streaming services in 16 markets across Asia, the Middle East, and South Africa, as well as free television in Hong Kong and live entertainment worldwide.
