Lionsgate has unveiled the final official trailer for Big Freaking Rat, a quirky horror-comedy B-movie that brings a monstrous rodent to life in a tale that is equal parts terrifying and absurd. Initially made in 2020, the film, which was largely overshadowed by Hollywood’s later creature features, will now make its official release on April 25, 2025, via direct-to-VOD.
Directed and written by Thomas J. Churchill, Big Freaking Rat centers on Ranger Brody, played by Scott C. Roe, who believes that managing his teenage niece and nephew will be his biggest challenge of the summer. However, his plans are quickly derailed when his newly opened campsite becomes the hunting grounds for a massive mutant rat. Years of toxic waste dumping have transformed the once-normal creature into a bloodthirsty menace, and now a ragtag group must figure out how to survive and stop the beast.
The film stars horror veteran Felissa Rose alongside a cast that includes Caleb Thomas, Nino Aldi, Caroline Abbott, Rachel Sterling, and Julie Anne Prescott. Though the premise is outrageous, the film’s combination of over-the-top horror and humor has earned it a cult following.
Big Freaking Rat is produced by Steven Louis Goldenberg, Phillip B. Goldfine, and Churchill himself. This release follows a string of oddball films from the director, including The Day of the Living Dead, Check Point, Amityville Harvest, and The Godfather Buck.
Get ready for this outrageous creature feature when Big Freaking Rat hits VOD platforms on April 25th, 2025.
