‘The Island Between Tides’: A Haunting Supernatural Thriller

by Barbara

The highly anticipated supernatural horror film The Island Between Tides has generated significant buzz, drawing inspiration from J.M. Barrie’s gothic ghost story Mary Rose. The film, which premiered at FilmQuest, transports viewers into the chilling coastal wilderness of Alaska, combining suspense with a slow-burn narrative that leaves an indelible mark.

Directed by Austin Andrews and Andrew Holmes, the story follows Lily, portrayed by Paloma Kwiatkowski, who is lured to a remote tidal island by a haunting melody. However, when Lily returns from the island, she discovers that decades have passed, and everything she once knew has changed. This shocking twist not only escalates the horror but taps into the deep fears of isolation and loss, delivering an emotionally powerful experience.

The Island Between Tides is based on Barrie’s Mary Rose, which first premiered as a stage play in 1920. The play’s eerie themes captivated the imagination of director Alfred Hitchcock, who once sought to turn it into a film—a project that, unfortunately, never came to fruition.
