Max has officially taken on the development of Your Second Wife, a sultry, suspense-filled thriller series inspired by Laura Van Den Berg’s short story. The show comes from a powerhouse team, including Your Friends & Neighbors writer-executive producer Jamie Rosengard, Crazy Rich Asians co-writer Adele Lim, Michael Sugar’s Sugar23, and Jessica Rothe’s Lil’ Situation Productions.
Created and showrun by Rosengard, Your Second Wife centers on Liana Dunn, a struggling aspiring actress turned high school theater teacher stuck in a stagnant life on Long Island. Grieving the recent death of her sister, Liana embarks on an unpredictable and dangerous double life, one she becomes addicted to despite the risks to her safety.
Rothe, known for Happy Death Day, discovered Van Den Berg’s short story and brought the idea to Sugar23, which sparked the development of the television adaptation. The series is executive produced by Michael Sugar, Ashley Zalta, and Margaux Swerdloff for Sugar23, alongside Lim and Naia Cucukov’s 100 Tigers, and Rothe’s Lil’ Situation Productions.
Rosengard is currently a writer and executive producer for Jonathan Tropper’s upcoming Apple series Your Friends & Neighbors, which stars Jon Hamm and will debut on April 11, with a second season already in the works. She has also recently developed the limited series Take Me Apart for Amazon, Merman, and Scrap Paper Pictures, and has projects underway with Netflix and Freeform.
Lim, who co-wrote the globally successful Crazy Rich Asians in 2018, is also developing a TV series based on the film for Warner Bros Television and Max, in addition to working on The Princess Diaries 3 for Disney, with Anne Hathaway reprising her iconic role. Lim’s TV experience includes serving as executive producer and showrunner for Star-Crossed on The CW, and co-executive producing Private Practice, Reign, and Lethal Weapon. Alongside Cucukov’s 100 Tigers, Lim has several projects in development at Amazon/MGM Studios, Max, and ABC.
The key creatives are represented by major agencies: Lim by Paradigm and Ginsburg, Daniels, Kallis; Cucukov by Paradigm and Sean Marks; Rosengard by CAA, Entertainment 360, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole LLP; and Rothe by UTA, Brillstein, and Sloane Offer Weber and Dern.
