Warner Bros. has officially confirmed the new title for Paul Thomas Anderson’s highly anticipated film starring Leonardo DiCaprio: One Battle After Another. The studio has rescheduled the film’s release from its original August 8 slot to September 26, 2025. This move places it in a more strategic position for the awards season, allowing it to benefit from positive word-of-mouth generated at fall film festivals. Anderson’s work has historically found success at such festivals, with Inherent Vice premiering at the New York Film Festival in 2014 and The Master debuting at the Venice Film Festival in 2012.
In a ripple effect of this change, Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride!, starring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale, has been postponed from its September 2025 release to March 6, 2026. Despite the early part of the year traditionally being a strong release window for genre films, the current slate of 2025 films has faced difficulties gaining traction, as seen by the 4.5% dip in North American box office revenues as of March 17 compared to the previous year. This trend has impacted the performance of films like Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17, which grossed $35 million in its opening weeks, well below its reported $118 million production budget.
The vacant August 8 slot now belongs to Weapons, a new horror film directed by Zach Cregger, best known for Barbarian. The film, which centers on a missing children mystery, has been moved up from its original January 16, 2026, release. Featuring a star-studded cast that includes Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, and Benedict Wong, Weapons will bring a high-profile genre film to the early autumn lineup.
Additional schedule changes include The Cat In The Hat animated feature, which has been moved up from March 6, 2026, to February 27, 2026. Meanwhile, David Robert Mitchell’s mystery thriller Flowervale Street, starring Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway, has been delayed from March 13, 2026, to August 14, 2026.
These shifts reflect Warner Bros.’ ongoing efforts to strategically position its upcoming releases for the best possible impact during the competitive 2025-2026 film season.
