Filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson, known for his distinct cinematic style, is gearing up to follow up his 2021 hit Licorice Pizza with a high-profile new project titled One Battle After Another. Described as Anderson’s unique take on the action genre, the first teaser for the film promises a dynamic, period-spanning narrative.
The film boasts an impressive cast, led by Leonardo DiCaprio, alongside seasoned actors Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Alana Haim, Wood Harris, and Shayna McHayle. The teaser, which features DiCaprio in various looks, hints at a story unfolding across multiple time periods. Additionally, action sequences with DiCaprio, Teyana Taylor, and Chase Infiniti firing guns suggest a chaotic, high-stakes environment.
One Battle After Another marks Anderson’s second attempt at adapting a Thomas Pynchon novel for the screen, following 2014’s Inherent Vice. This time, the film is loosely based on Pynchon’s 1990 novel Vineland, adding another layer of intrigue for fans of both the filmmaker and the author.
Warner Bros. originally scheduled the film’s release for August 2025, but the studio has since moved the premiere to September 26, 2025.
Anderson’s career took off in 1997 with the groundbreaking film Boogie Nights, which explored the Golden Age of the American porn industry through a star-studded ensemble cast. Though his directorial debut, Hard Eight (1996), earned critical praise, it was Boogie Nights that solidified Anderson as a masterful storyteller. Throughout his career, Anderson has consistently earned critical acclaim, with each of his films featuring standout performances, such as Daniel Day-Lewis’s Oscar-winning role in There Will Be Blood (2007).
