‘Queens of Drama’ : A Glittering Pop Musical of Love and Chaos

by Barbara

Altered Innocence has revealed the US trailer for Queens of Drama, a vibrant and explosive French pop musical that marks the feature film debut of director Alexis Langlois, known for his striking music videos. Premiering at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival as part of the Critics’ Week sidebar, the film offers a high-energy, glitter-fueled journey into the world of fame, passion, and turmoil.

Set against the backdrop of the early 2000s pop culture frenzy, Queens of Drama follows the meteoric rise and tumultuous downfall of Mimi Madamour, a pop diva whose career peaks in 2005 before unraveling due to a volatile love affair with punk icon Billie Kohler. The couple’s intense and chaotic relationship is played out not only in their personal lives but also on stage, spanning over five decades.

With a soundtrack featuring iconic tracks such as “Don’t Touch” by Yelle and “Fisted to the Heart”, the film explores the turbulent dynamics of toxic relationships—both between fans and idols and within passionate queer love affairs.
