Veteran animator Aaron Blaise, best known for his work on Disney classics like The Lion King and Aladdin, has released a trailer for his latest personal project, Snow Bear, a heartwarming animated short. The film, which premiered earlier this month at the Playgrounds Film Festival in the Netherlands, showcases Blaise’s dedication to 2D hand-drawn animation, a craft he’s honed over his illustrious career.
Snow Bear tells the story of a polar bear navigating a harsh, changing world in search of a friend. The short is infused with humor, emotion, and the relatable charm that has defined many of Blaise’s previous works. Created entirely by Blaise over the span of three years, this project marks a deeply personal endeavor for the animator, who dedicated his spare time to bringing the story to life.
Having spent two decades at Disney, Blaise contributed to some of the studio’s most iconic films, including Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, and Mulan. His directorial debut, Brother Bear (2006), was followed by a move away from Hollywood films, as Blaise chose to focus on personal projects. Most recently, he served as 2D Animation Supervisor and Character Designer for the beloved The Bear and the Hare holiday ad, which captivated millions worldwide.
With Snow Bear, Blaise returns to his roots, capturing the spirit of traditional animation and his lifelong passion for animals. The film is set to be released online later this year, bringing a new wave of magic to audiences old and new.
