The official website for BADBOYS THE MOVIE, the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Hiroshi Tanaka’s iconic motorcycle gang-themed manga, has revealed the film’s main trailer and a striking poster visual.
The trailer features the energetic theme song “Be Brave!” performed by the Japanese boy band JO1. The track is highlighted by the contribution of Issei Mamehara, the youngest member of the group, who also stars in the movie as the lead character, Tsukasa Kiriki.
JO1’s Junki Kono, who co-wrote the lyrics for “Be Brave!” with fellow group member Sukai Kinjo, expressed his excitement on the film’s website. “As I got to know the story, the protagonist Tsukasa Kiriki, who is determined to become a ‘Man’ and chase after his dreams, reminded me of Mamehara,” Kono said. “I wrote the lyrics with a sincere heart and high expectations for the movie. I hope fans enjoy the passionate ‘Be Brave!’ and the retro sound that JO1 brings to the film.”
The original BADBOYS manga, created by Hiroshi Tanaka, was serialized in Shonen Gahosha’s Young King magazine from 1988 to 1996. It has since spawned several sequels and spin-offs, with over 55 million copies in print as of 2015.
Previously adapted into various forms, BADBOYS was turned into a five-episode OVA from 1993 to 1998, a 2011 live-action film, and a 2013 live-action TV series BAD BOYS J, which was followed by a feature film sequel, BAD BOYS J: Saigo ni Amamoru Mono.
Directed by Tatsuro Nishikawa, with a screenplay co-written by Kento Mineo, BADBOYS THE MOVIE also stars Rihito Ikezaki (INI), Jutaro Yamanaka, Sora Inoue, Manami Igashira, Joey Iwanaga, Hiroto Oshita, Kasumi Yamatani, Takumi Hyodo, and Sho Aoyagi.
The film follows Tsukasa Kiriki, the only son of a wealthy family, who becomes fascinated by the legendary delinquent Murakoshi, the man who saved him during his childhood. Eager to escape his overprotective parents, Tsukasa runs away from home. His attempt to join BEAST, Japan’s largest motorcycle gang, fails, but fate leads him to meet Yoji, Hisao, and Eiji. The four quickly form a bond, and Toshi, the leader of a small gang named Gokurakucho, invites them to join his group in a battle against the formidable Hiroshima Night’s. Despite initial hesitation, the four agree to the challenge.
With its mix of action, camaraderie, and the promise of a gripping storyline, BADBOYS THE MOVIE is poised to make a major impact on fans of the manga and newcomers alike.
