Vietnam’s Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Nguyen Van Hung, recently held a meeting with senior officials from Riot Games and a film production team to discuss the creation of a live-action League of Legends TV series. The project, set to consist of nine episodes, marks a significant shift from the animated success of Arcane and introduces Riot Games’ ambitious foray into live-action adaptations of its iconic game universe.
The discussions, which took place in Vietnam, are still in the early stages, with ongoing negotiations regarding the logistics, legalities, and environmental considerations of the production. Despite these hurdles, both Riot Games and the Vietnamese government are keen to begin filming by late 2025.
In a Facebook post, the Vietnamese government confirmed the meeting, revealing that the project is in the works with Riot Games’ plans to shoot in Vietnam’s scenic Cát Bà archipelago. Known for its stunning views and crystal-clear waters, this location seems an ideal match for the League of Legends universe. While specifics regarding the series’ setting remain under wraps, the archipelago’s pirate-like atmosphere could align with the game’s Bilgewater or Shadow Isles regions.
Riot Games is also enlisting high-profile talent for the project, including Rose Lam, who will serve as a producer. Lam’s previous work includes producing The Last of Us TV series, one of the most highly praised video game adaptations to date.
Although there are few concrete details about the show’s plot or cast, the decision to film in late 2025 suggests that fans of League of Legends may need to wait some time before the live-action series is released. Nevertheless, this move further cements Riot Games’ commitment to expanding the League of Legends universe across various media platforms. Additionally, Riot is developing 2XKO, a League of Legends fighting game that aims to bring its beloved characters to new gaming arenas.
As the live-action series takes shape, all eyes will be on Riot Games to see how they adapt the League of Legends world into a new format for its global fanbase.
