Shudder has released the official trailer for Dead Mail, an unsettling and gritty indie horror film directed by Joe DeBoer and Kyle McConaghy. The film, which made its debut at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival, has garnered attention at other notable events, including TIFF, FrightFest, Screamfest, Grimmfest, Night Visions, and Splat!FilmFest.
Set in the 1980s, Dead Mail follows a seasoned “dead letter” investigator at a Midwestern post office, who stumbles upon an ominous and bloodstained plea for help. As he digs deeper into the origins of the mysterious note, he is drawn into a violent and twisted journey that leads to a kidnapped keyboard engineer and his eccentric business associate.
The film stars Sterling Macer Jr., John Fleck, Susan Priver, Micki Jackson, Tomas Boykin, and Nick Heyman. Early reviews have praised the film’s gripping script, likening it to the intense storytelling of viral Netflix documentaries, with some suggesting that the film’s wackiness recalls the style of director Park Chan-wook.
Dead Mail will be available for streaming on Shudder starting April 19, 2025. It marks DeBoer and McConaghy’s second feature collaboration, following their previous work on BAB and a number of short films. Produced by Zachary Weil and Brett Arndt, Dead Mail promises to be a thrilling and eerie addition to Shudder’s horror lineup this spring.
