Hulu’s highly anticipated scripted series about the notorious Murdaugh family has officially cast Johnny Berchtold and Will Harrison.
The series, which is based on the real-life Murdaugh family saga, will explore the lives of Maggie and Alex Murdaugh, as well as the investigative work of journalist Mandy Matney, creator of the “Murdaugh Murders” podcast. It was previously reported that Patricia Arquette and Jason Clarke would portray Maggie and Alex Murdaugh, respectively, with J. Smith Cameron also set to star as Marian Proctor.
Will Harrison will take on the role of Buster Murdaugh, described as the “golden boy” of the Murdaugh family. Buster, who is poised to follow in the legal footsteps of his father, Alex, and his grandfather, Randolph, is also Maggie’s cherished son. His relationship with his younger brother Paul, however, is marked by tension.
Johnny Berchtold will portray Paul Murdaugh, the youngest son of Maggie and Alex, known for his hard-partying lifestyle and constant run-ins with trouble. Paul is described as someone always in pursuit of fun, regardless of the consequences.
Harrison, who is known for his roles in Amazon’s “Daisy Jones & The Six” and Apple TV+’s “Manhunt,” most recently appeared in the critically acclaimed Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, portraying Bobby Neuwirth. He is represented by Gersh and Sugar23.
Berchtold, currently featured in the third season of Amazon’s hit series Reacher, has also appeared in “Gaslit,” “Tiny Beautiful Things,” and “The Wilds.” His film credits include Dog Gone, Broke, and Test Screening. He is represented by Buchwald, Canopy Media Partners, Jackoway Austen, and Viewpoint.
The Murdaugh family, once a dominant force in South Carolina’s Lowcountry, has been at the center of numerous criminal investigations, ranging from fraud to murder. Their story has been covered extensively, not only in the “Murdaugh Murders” podcast but also in various docuseries and news specials.
Co-creators Michael D. Fuller and Erin Lee Carr will serve as executive producers, with Fuller also acting as showrunner. Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund will executive produce under their Eat the Cat banner, with Matney also contributing as an executive producer. UCP is the studio behind the project, and Antosca and Eat the Cat are under an overall deal at UCP.
