Lionsgate has unveiled a chilling new trailer for Hurry Up Tomorrow, a psychological thriller featuring Abel Tesfaye (better known as The Weeknd), who stars as a musician battling insomnia. The film, which explores the unraveling of his character’s psyche after encountering a mysterious stranger, will be released exclusively in theaters on May 16.

Directed by Trey Edward Shults (Waves, It Comes at Night), the film also features performances from Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. The screenplay was co-written by Shults, Tesfaye, and Reza Fahim.

In the film, a tormented musician plagued by sleepless nights embarks on a harrowing journey with a stranger who threatens to expose the very essence of his existence. The psychological intensity of the narrative promises a deep dive into the human mind, driven by the film’s haunting atmosphere.

Though this marks Tesfaye’s debut in a lead role in a feature film, the artist has previously ventured into the world of horror. In 2022, he collaborated with Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights to create terrifying haunted houses inspired by his acclaimed After Hours album.

Hurry Up Tomorrow also ties into The Weeknd’s latest musical release, his sixth studio album of the same name, which debuted in January. The album, which serves as the foundation for the film’s score, is available for streaming and download. Additionally, fans can watch the music video for the new single “Open Hearts,” marking a significant chapter in The Weeknd’s artistic evolution.

This film extends the narrative arc of The Weeknd’s musical trilogy, which began with After Hours and continued with Dawn FM. Hurry Up Tomorrow represents the culmination of that journey, blending the worlds of music and cinema into an immersive new experience.

Lionsgate’s Adam Fogelson shared his excitement for the project, saying, “Abel is a visionary whose art cannot be confined by any single medium. With Hurry Up Tomorrow, in partnership with Trey, his musical universe expands onto the big screen with a psychological thriller that will usher in a new cinematic experience for fans. We are thrilled to be bringing it to audiences worldwide.”

Hurry Up Tomorrow has been rated “R” for language, drug use, bloody violence, and brief nudity. Fans can look forward to a gripping, boundary-pushing experience this May.
