FOX Renews ‘Family Guy’ Through 2028-29 Season in Major Animation Deal

by Barbara

FOX has confirmed a four-season renewal for Family Guy, ensuring the long-running animated comedy remains on the network until at least the 2028-29 television season. The renewal extends the series through seasons 24 to 27, with its 23rd season currently airing.

Created by Seth MacFarlane, Family Guy follows the Griffin family, led by the bumbling yet well-meaning Peter Griffin (voiced by MacFarlane). The cast also includes Alex Borstein as Peter’s wife Lois, Mila Kunis as their teenage daughter Meg, Seth Green as their son Chris, Patrick Warburton as neighbor Joe Swanson, and Arif Zahir as Cleveland Brown. The show’s signature humor revolves around Peter’s antics, Stewie’s diabolical intelligence, and the family’s talking dog, Brian, who often serves as Peter’s confidant.

Season 23, currently airing on Sunday nights, features episodes including a Top Gun parody, Peter realizing Joe has never found him funny, Lois chaperoning a school trip, and Peter swapping places with a Supreme Court Justice. Despite its enduring popularity, the current season has seen a ratings dip, averaging a 0.20 rating in the key 18-49 demographic and 845,000 viewers—down 24% from the previous season in the demo and 13% in total viewership.

FOX also announced multi-season renewals for other animated staples, including Bob’s Burgers (seasons 16-19) and The Simpsons (seasons 37-40). Additionally, American Dad! is making its return to FOX after several years on TBS and has been picked up for four more seasons (20-23).

FOX executives celebrated the extended commitments, emphasizing the network’s ongoing collaboration with 20th Television Animation and Disney.

“This new deal celebrates the eternal popularity of these iconic comedies and our enduring partnership with the brilliant creators behind them,” said Michael Thorn, President of FOX Television Network. “That goes double for Seth this time around.”

Rob Wade, CEO of FOX Entertainment, reinforced the strategic value of the agreement. “The longevity of this deal reaffirms our commitment to the successful partnership we’ve built with Disney. This collaboration will continue to drive long-term value and build audiences across FOX, Hulu, and worldwide platforms.”

Marci Proietto, head of 20th Television Animation, called the renewal “truly monumental,” ensuring The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad!, and Bob’s Burgers remain on the air for years to come. “We are proud that these legendary shows will continue, allowing new and longtime fans to enjoy more of their favorite animated comedies,” she said.

With its future secure, Family Guy remains a cornerstone of FOX’s animated lineup, continuing to deliver irreverent humor and cultural satire for the foreseeable future.
