Luca Guadagnino’s ‘After the Hunt’ Premieres This October

by Barbara

After the Hunt, the latest psychological thriller from filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, is set to captivate audiences with its tense, nail-biting narrative when it hits theaters on October 10. Starring Andrew Garfield, Ayo Edebiri, and Julia Roberts, the film is the director’s fourth collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, following his successful projects Suspiria, Bones and All, and Challengers.

Known for his diverse approach to filmmaking, Guadagnino blends elements of classic ’90s thrillers, taking inspiration from Michael Crichton’s Disclosure and Curtis Hanson’s Wonder Boys, though this film shifts firmly into the thriller genre, contrasting with the latter’s dramatic tone.

Set at a prestigious university, After the Hunt centers on a college professor (Roberts) who is thrust into a moral and professional dilemma after one of her star students (Edebiri) accuses a colleague (Garfield) of misconduct. Meanwhile, a dark secret from the professor’s past begins to resurface, threatening her personal and professional stability.

Garfield’s portrayal of the professor reveals a character with a dangerous charm, particularly in his strained relationship with Edebiri’s character, who is accused of plagiarism. The tension escalates when Edebiri seeks Roberts’ character for support, only to find herself pushed to the edge. The film’s trailer promises a gripping exchange, where Edebiri’s character finally declares, “I don’t feel comfortable having this conversation with you anymore,” to which Roberts’ character coldly responds, “Not everything is supposed to make you feel comfortable.”

The film also features performances from Michael Stuhlbarg and Chloë Sevigny. Written by Nora Garrett, After the Hunt is produced by Brian Grazer, Guadagnino, Jeb Brody, and Allan Mandelbaum.

As anticipation builds for its limited release, After the Hunt promises to be a psychological thriller that will leave audiences questioning the boundaries between right and wrong.
