by Barbara

Universal Pictures announced at CinemaCon on last Wednesday that Hiccup and Toothless will return to theaters in 2027 with a live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon 2. The movie is slated to soar into cinemas on June 11, 2027, just a week after Sony’s animated Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

This announcement comes ahead of the highly anticipated live-action How to Train Your Dragon, which is scheduled to hit theaters on June 13. Universal premiered the live-action remake earlier on last Wednesday at CinemaCon, where it received positive reviews from audiences.

During the presentation, How to Train Your Dragon director Dean DeBlois expressed his excitement about the upcoming sequel, stating, “We are so excited to give your theaters a big summer title in two years’ time.” DeBlois was joined on stage by actor Gerard Butler, who reprises his role as Stoick the Vast, and Nico Parker, who plays a new character, a love interest of Hiccup’s. Parker also shared her gratitude, thanking the audience for their warm reception at the world premiere.

The How to Train Your Dragon franchise, set in the fictional Viking village of Berk, tells the story of Hiccup, a young misfit who befriends a dragon named Toothless, challenging long-held Viking traditions of animosity toward dragons. The sequel, set five years after the first film, follows a 20-year-old Hiccup and his friends as they face a villain intent on using a dragon army to conquer the world.

DeBlois, who also wrote and directed the original How to Train Your Dragon trilogy — which earned a combined $1.6 billion at the global box office and four Academy Award nominations — will helm the live-action remake. Fans of the franchise can look forward to a thrilling new chapter in the beloved series.
