Daydreamers, a bold new Vietnamese vampire film, is set to make its U.S. theatrical debut on May 2, with an expanded rollout to follow before its digital release on June 3 through Dark Star Pictures.
The film is set in modern-day Saigon, where Nhat, a young vampire, lives in a secretive riverboat community. Raised with a strict code that suppresses the thirst for human blood, Nhat’s life takes a dramatic turn when his estranged brother entices him into the city’s vibrant nightlife. Breaking the sacred vampire laws to protect a rebellious girl who uncovers his true nature, Nhat finds himself caught in a deadly spiral of events.
Daydreamers marks one of the first vampire films from Vietnam, blending elements of horror, thriller, and fantasy. With stunning visual effects and a powerful narrative, the film explores themes of loyalty, identity, and survival in a gripping twist on vampire mythology.
Written and directed by Timothy Linh Bui, the film features a talented cast including Chi Pu, Trinh Thao, Thuan Nguyen, and Tran Ngoc Vang.
“I wanted to tell a story about people who live within the shadows of a modern city,” said Bui. “I was inspired by the Vietnamese riverboat communities, who have existed for decades yet remain largely unnoticed. Vampires, as the ultimate outsiders, serve as the perfect lens to explore this world. They exist in secrecy, live on the margins, and are defined by their need to remain hidden.”
