The beloved cast of The Summer I Turned Pretty is heading back to Cousins Beach for the series’ final chapter, as Prime Video gears up for the third and concluding season, set to premiere in July 2025. Based on Jenny Han’s best-selling trilogy, the show has captured the hearts of fans with its exploration of love, heartache, and self-discovery. And as the series comes to a close, author Jenny Han promises a season full of surprises that will keep fans on the edge of their seats.
The drama follows the complicated love triangle between Belly (Lola Tung) and brothers Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno), whose families vacation together every summer in the idyllic setting of Cousins Beach, Massachusetts. Season 2 ended with Belly choosing Jeremiah over Conrad, but as the third season unfolds, the Fisher brothers are far from out of the picture.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Han teased that despite Conrad’s absence at the close of season 2, he remains an integral part of the story. “People will see the ways that he’s changed, and he’s seeing the ways that Belly, Jeremiah, and Steven [Sean Kaufman] have changed as well,” Han said. Fans can expect many heartwarming and intense moments between Belly and Jeremiah, but Conrad’s journey is far from over.
Returning Cast and New Faces
The main cast is set to reprise their roles in the final season. Lola Tung will return as Belly, alongside Christopher Briney and Gavin Casalegno as Conrad and Jeremiah, respectively. Sean Kaufman will also return as Steven, with Rain Spencer playing Taylor and Jackie Chung as Laurel.
However, not all familiar faces are returning. Kyra Sedgwick, who portrayed Aunt Julia, confirmed she will not be part of season 3.
What Will Season 3 Be About?
Season 3 of The Summer I Turned Pretty is based on the third and final book in Jenny Han’s trilogy, We’ll Always Have Summer. Set two years after the events of It’s Not Summer Without You, the season will follow Belly as she faces another period of uncertainty, torn between her love for both Fisher brothers. This time, however, Belly must make a definitive decision about where her heart truly lies.
While season 2 took some liberties with the book’s storyline, Han has assured fans that the final season will stick closely to the source material. “Jenny is really strong on staying as true to the books as possible,” Casalegno said. “There’s a blueprint for us, and it’s been incredible to have Jenny on set.”
Though Han is keeping many details under wraps, she did tease that the two-year time jump from the book will be honored, along with some “surprises” that will keep viewers guessing.
How Many Episodes Will Season 3 Have?
Initially expected to consist of 10 episodes, Prime Video has upped the count to 11 for the final season. This marks a slight increase in episode count compared to the previous seasons, promising more content for fans to enjoy as the story reaches its conclusion.
Production Timeline and Filming Locations
Filming for season 3 began in Wilmington, North Carolina, in spring 2024, with cast members including Tung, Briney, Casalegno, Kaufman, and Spencer sharing behind-the-scenes clips from the beach. A notable filming location also included Paris in October 2024, where fans captured footage of Tung and Casalegno filming together.
Release Date and What’s Next
After teasing the return in May 2024, Prime Video officially announced that The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 will premiere in July 2025, with Lola Tung sharing the news in a video message to fans: “See you [in] Summer 2025!”
As for a Summer I Turned Pretty spinoff, while the series will conclude with season 3, Amazon has hinted at potential future projects. Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon and MGM Studios, teased in September 2023 that the network is exploring complementary spin-offs, with Jenny Han’s vision playing a central role in these discussions.
With the end of the Summer I Turned Pretty series approaching, fans can expect a finale that ties up loose ends while leaving an emotional impact. As Jenny Han said, “Three books, three seasons—it feels right to me.” The Fisher brothers’ love triangle, Belly’s journey, and the summers spent at Cousins Beach are about to come to a heartfelt and satisfying conclusion.
