A new Thunderbolts trailer has revealed a significant twist, as Sentry, played by Lewis Pullman, declares, “I am The Void… there’s no use fighting! You don’t know what I’m capable of. Maybe I need to show you.”
The trailer also features Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who describes Sentry as “invincible, all-powerful, [and] stronger than all of The Avengers rolled into one.” This confirms that Pullman’s character is indeed The Sentry, marking a major development in the MCU.
The international trailer, released by Marvel Australia & New Zealand, provides a closer look at Sentry’s transformation, with his eyes glowing to highlight his incredible power. Marvel Studios now officially designates him as “Earth’s Mightiest Hero.”
Before this revelation, Sentry’s role was kept under wraps in previous trailers. The new footage not only solidifies his identity but also confirms his return in Avengers: Doomsday, indicating his survival beyond Thunderbolts.
The film brings together a team of unlikely anti-heroes, including Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, and U.S. Agent. They are forced into a dangerous mission by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, where they must confront their pasts and try to stop Sentry, possibly redeeming him in the process.
Director Jake Schreier explained that the film was inspired by movies like Toy Story 3, Ronin, and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. “It wasn’t as focused on a genre as much as the dynamics amongst characters,” he told Empire in an interview.
Schreier added, “You’re talking about a group of characters that have done a lot of bad things and maybe are struggling with feeling good about themselves. There’s an element that speaks to mental health, loneliness, and how some of the darkness we experience can’t be fixed, but can only be lightened through connection and finding others.”
