Siena Agudong has been cast as Sue Snell in Mike Flanagan’s upcoming Carrie TV series, an Amazon adaptation of Stephen King’s iconic novel, Variety has exclusively learned.
This follows the news earlier this week that Summer H. Howell is in negotiations for the title role of Carrie. While there has been no official series pickup announcement, sources confirm that production is set to begin this summer in Vancouver.
The series is described as a “bold and timely reimagining” of Carrie White’s story. Carrie, a misfit high schooler, faces bullying, telekinetic powers, and the alien world of public school following the sudden death of her father.
In King’s novel and its film adaptations, Sue initially bullies Carrie but later seeks to make amends. Agudong joins a long list of actresses who have played the role, including Amy Irving in the original 1976 film.
Agudong’s recent credits include the Tubi film The QB and Me, where she also served as an executive producer. She starred in Kevin Smith’s The 4:30 Movie and appeared in Resident Evil, No Good Nick, and several other TV shows.
Flanagan, known for The Haunting of Hill House, will write, direct, and executive produce Carrie, with Trevor Macy also serving as an executive producer.
King’s 1974 novel Carrie was adapted into the classic 1976 film, directed by Brian DePalma and starring Sissy Spacek. The film grossed over $30 million on a modest budget and is regarded as one of the best horror films ever made.
