Steppenwolf, a brutal action thriller from Kazakhstan, is set to hit Blu-ray and VOD platforms soon. Directed by Adilkhan Yerzhanov, the film follows the gripping and nihilistic journey of a mother searching for her missing son in a violent town. Known for his earlier films The Gentle Indifference of the World, Yellow Cat, and Goliath, Yerzhanov brings a chilling narrative filled with social commentary and dark humor.
The plot centers on Tamara (Anna Starchenko), a woman consumed by trauma, who hires an ex-cop detective (Berik Aitzhanov) with questionable morals to find her son. The detective’s methods are cruel, but Tamara is determined to go to any length to locate her child. The story unfolds as the unlikely duo embarks on a bloody and violent road trip, searching for redemption in a world full of corruption.
Steppenwolf has been described as “sadistic, bleak, and tedious,” yet its darkly humorous undertones make it a compelling watch for fans of intense, action-packed thrillers. The film won the Golden Raven Grand Prix at the 2024 Brussels Fantastic Film Festival, adding to its recognition on the international stage.
The film will be available on Blu-ray and VOD (via Apple TV) starting May 26, 2025. The Blu-ray release will also include Yerzhanov’s 2022 film Goliath, making this an exciting package for fans of his work.
Steppenwolf is a film that isn’t for everyone, but for those who enjoy gritty, violent cinema, it promises to be an unforgettable experience.
