Michael Bublé Joins Foo Fighters Onstage for Electrifying Rendition of His Hit ‘Haven’t Met You Yet’

by Barbara

In a crescendo to an ongoing jest cherished by the Foo Fighters, a delightful surprise unfolded as Michael Bublé, the pop and jazz virtuoso, graced the stage in a spontaneous joint performance.

During the course of their recent and resounding tour, the band paid homage to their new live drummer, Josh Freese, with an ebullient medley dedicated to the array of artists he has collaborated with over his illustrious career. Among these luminaries are Guns N’ Roses, Paramore, Blink-182, Avril Lavigne, Beastie Boys, Offspring, Nine Inch Nails, and, intriguingly, Bublé.

Turning the spotlight on Freese’s connection with the crooner, Foo Fighters’ lead vocalist, Dave Grohl, crafted a tradition of inviting fans to share their rendition of Bublé’s melodic gem “Haven’t Met You Yet” on stage. However, during their spirited performance at the Outside Lands music festival in San Francisco last Saturday, the lyrical familiarity seemed to have escaped the grasp of many. In response, Grohl turned to a bona fide aficionado.

Reflecting on the recurring theme, Grohl humorously addressed the audience, remarking, “At the last couple of shows, I always look out and someone’s like, ‘I know the Bublé song. I’ll come up and sing it.'” But with a wry grin, he added, “Every time someone says they know this song, they don’t know the f—ing song.”

As the introductory strains of the track reverberated through the air, Grohl’s gaze fixated on an attendee waving an “I heart Bublé” sign. Playfully, he queried, “Do you know the f—ing song?” Calling out the individual’s enthusiasm, he dubbed them a “superfan” and remarked, “Hold on, we got a superfan. He’s got the ‘I love Bublé!'”

To the crowd’s amazement, this “superfan” was none other than the man himself, Michael Bublé, who seamlessly merged his velvety vocals with the Foo Fighters’ prowess to deliver a spellbinding rendition of his chart-topping anthem, “Haven’t Met You Yet.”

Amid the performance, Grohl interjected with his characteristic humor, quipping, “This motherf—er better know the song.” Yet, as the harmonious fusion progressed, his feigned astonishment couldn’t be contained, as he exclaimed, “Oh my god, it’s Michael Bublé! Wait, what?!”

In a bid to provide more context to the enthralled audience, Grohl seized the moment, stating, “I’m just gonna tell you something, and I’ll make it f—ing quick because we don’t have a lot of time.” With earnestness, he conveyed Bublé’s commitment, revealing, “For real, we’ve been doing that thing where people from the audience come up and say, ‘I know the f—ing song,’ and they walk up and they’re like, ‘I know the first verse.’ They don’t know it!”

Motioning towards Bublé, Grohl continued, “So this badass motherf—er — and I’m not even kidding — flew in today from Argentina to f—ing sing that song to you guys. Because there’s no such thing as taking a joke too far.”

Beyond the celebrated “Haven’t Met You Yet,” the comprehensive Freese medley encompassed magnetic renditions of Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage,” Devo’s “Whip It,” and Nine Inch Nails’ “March of the Pigs.”

Reflecting on his enigmatic career trajectory in an interview with EW in 2009, the prolific drummer Freese jestingly acknowledged, “I work with famous people, but I’m kind of under the radar.” With a dose of self-effacing humor, he quipped, “I’m probably famous to the drummer kid that lives down the street from me, but that’s about it.”

Foo Fighters’ most recent opus, “But Here We Are,” debuted in June, solidifying their indomitable musical prowess. The intersection of musical giants on the Outside Lands stage stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of creativity and camaraderie that continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
