Renée Rapp, best known for her role in “The Sex Lives of College Girls,” has opened up about the powerful inspiration behind the title track of her newly released debut album, “Snow Angel.”
During her appearance on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, the multi-talented actress and singer delved into a transformative experience from her past, rather than a traumatic one involving drugging and disappearance.
Rapp fondly reminisces about a night out with a fresh group of friends in early 2022. Despite warnings from her close-knit circle and family about these new acquaintances, the 23-year-old candidly admits that she relished a newfound sense of liberation following a recent breakup.
“I allowed myself to embrace new company without passing judgment,” Rapp shared. “We were all out, navigating one unexpected situation after another. Unfortunately, they didn’t prove trustworthy, and before I knew it, I was lying in a bathroom stall in a hotel bar, gazing up at the ceiling, just waking up at 5 in the morning, in serene solitude.”
Rapp describes her awakening as a moment of introspection, with a determination to distance herself from these individuals and curtail her partying lifestyle. She confided in her parents and a select group of friends about the experience, narrating it in a composed and straightforward manner, and was met with their deep concern and support, which initially left her puzzled.
It took Rapp several months to process the incident fully, and during this period, she recognized an urge to encapsulate her feelings through music. It was her friend and collaborator, Alexander 23 (Alexander Glantz), who provided the much-needed encouragement.
“We embarked on the songwriting journey together, just the two of us. Strangely, throughout the entire process, I felt nothing,” Rapp revealed. “It wasn’t until the song was recorded, and I played it for my friends and manager, that they were utterly captivated. To me, that entire year of my life symbolized innate resilience.”
