Lil Nas X recently had a memorable encounter with renowned actress Viola Davis, but it seems that the Oscar-winning star remains blissfully unaware, according to the artist.
In his captivating documentary, Lil Nas X: Embrace of Freedom, which premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, the “Old Town Road” singer recounts a hilarious incident involving the esteemed actress from films such as The Help and TV series like How to Get Away With Murder.
“I bumped into Viola Davis at Erewhon, but I don’t think she had a clue who the hell I am,” confesses the 24-year-old musician in the film, showcasing a photo of Davis affixed to his bedroom wall amidst a mosaic of other notable personalities. “I was like, ‘I’m a huge admirer,’ and all she mustered was a casual ‘Oh, thanks,’ before hastening out of the store. It was pretty comical.”
EW has sought a comment from Davis or her representative regarding the incident.
Co-directed by Carlos López Estrada and Zac Manuel, the documentary delves into Lil Nas X’s professional triumphs while venturing into his familial bonds and personal discovery during his transformative Long Live Montero tour across the country. It also reflects on his courageous decision to publicly embrace his identity as a gay man in 2019.
The film offers viewers a fleeting glimpse into the singer’s private abode, where the vibrant wall adorned with famous faces resides. Among the roster of celebrities gracing his bedroom wall are Euphoria’s Alexa Demie, Bad Bunny, and Taylor Swift, providing artistic inspiration and a sense of connection.
