After the epic conclusion to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Infinity Saga in “Avengers: Endgame,” fans were left wondering what’s next for the superhero franchise. While there have been a few Marvel TV shows released since then, including “WandaVision,” “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” and “Loki,” fans have been eagerly waiting for the next Marvel movie to hit theaters.
The next Marvel movie on the slate is “Black Widow,” starring Scarlett Johansson as the eponymous character. The movie was originally set to release in May 2020 but was delayed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The current release date is July 9, 2021, and it will be released in both theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access.
“Black Widow” is a prequel to the events of “Avengers: Endgame” and takes place after the events of “Captain America: Civil War.” The movie will explore the backstory of Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, and delve into her past as a Russian spy before she became an Avenger. The movie will also introduce new characters, including Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, and Rachel Weisz as Melina Vostokoff.
After “Black Widow,” the next Marvel movie on the slate is “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.” The movie is set to release on September 3, 2021, and stars Simu Liu as the titular character, Shang-Chi. The movie will introduce the Ten Rings organization, which has been teased in previous Marvel movies, and explore Shang-Chi’s origin story as a skilled martial artist.
Following “Shang-Chi,” the next Marvel movie on the slate is “Eternals,” which is set to release on November 5, 2021. The movie stars an ensemble cast, including Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Salma Hayek, and Kit Harington. “Eternals” will introduce a group of immortal beings who have been living on Earth for thousands of years, and their mission to protect humanity from their evil counterparts, the Deviants.
After “Eternals,” the next Marvel movie on the slate is “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which is set to release on December 17, 2021. The movie stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and will feature a multiverse storyline that will bring back some familiar faces from previous Spider-Man movies, including Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus and Jamie Foxx as Electro.
In addition to these movies, Marvel has announced several other movies in development, including “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” “Thor: Love and Thunder,” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” “The Marvels,” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.” While release dates for these movies have not been officially announced, they are expected to release in 2022 and beyond.
Overall, while “Avengers: Endgame” marked the end of an era for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there is plenty to look forward to in the franchise’s future. With a diverse lineup of characters and stories, the next few years are sure to be an exciting time for Marvel fans.
